When to leave for Colombo airport
International check-in at CMB usually opens three hours before departure and closes one hour before. These are the pickup times we normally recommend, based on the drive plus that three-hour buffer and a short stop.

Early-morning departures
Plenty of flights leave Colombo between 1 am and 8 am, which means a pickup in the middle of the night from the hills or the south coast. We do these every week. Ask your hotel for a packed breakfast, sleep in the vehicle, and the roads will be empty the whole way.
If your flight is very early and you are far from Colombo, consider a last night in Negombo — it is 25 minutes from the terminal and turns a five-hour night drive into a lie-in.
Where the driver drops you
Departures at CMB are on the upper level, reached by ramp. The driver pulls in at the departures kerb, unloads your bags and points you at the entrance for your airline. Only ticketed passengers pass the first security check, so goodbyes happen at the door.

- A few hours at Negombo beach or the fish market before a night flight.
- Lunch in Colombo if you have checked out early.
