Sri Lankan road scenery on an Ashi Travels private transfer

Sri Lanka taxi service with an English-speaking driver

Ashi Travels runs private taxis across every province of Sri Lanka — a car, SUV, van or minibus with your own driver rather than a metered city cab. Tell us where you are and where you want to be, and we send back one all-in price before you travel.

  • All 9 provinces
  • 24/7, including night runs
  • Fixed price, no meter

How a private taxi in Sri Lanka differs from a ride app

Metered taxis and ride-hailing apps work reasonably inside Colombo, but they are built for short city hops. Once you leave the capital, coverage thins out, drivers decline long trips, and the return leg is usually added to your fare anyway.

A private taxi is priced for the whole journey. The same driver stays with you door to door, waits while you stop for lunch or photos, and speaks English well enough to explain what you are looking at. For anything longer than an hour, it is normally the cheaper and always the calmer option.

Where our taxis go

We cover the entire island — Western and Southern coasts, the Central hill country, the Cultural Triangle, the East coast surf towns and the North as far as Jaffna.

  • Colombo, Negombo and the west coast hotels
  • Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella and the tea estates
  • Galle, Mirissa, Tangalle and the southern beaches
  • Sigiriya, Dambulla, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa
  • Yala, Udawalawe and Wilpattu safari gateways
  • Arugam Bay, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Jaffna

Taxi by the trip, by the day or by the week

  • Point-to-point transfer — one town to another, priced per journey.
  • Day hire — the driver stays with you for a full day of sightseeing.
  • Multi-day touring — the same vehicle and driver for your whole itinerary, with the driver's meals and accommodation already inside the quote.
  • Airport runs — pickups and drop-offs at Colombo (CMB) around the clock.

Choosing the right vehicle

A car takes up to three passengers with two large suitcases. An SUV suits four with extra luggage and rides better on hill roads. A van is the workhorse for four to seven travellers, and a minibus or coach handles groups of eight and above. If you are unsure, send your group size and luggage count and we will recommend one.
