Most transfer complaints come down to luggage, not people. Here is how to match the vehicle to what you are actually carrying out of arrivals.
Count suitcases, not passengers
Three adults fit in a car. Three adults with three large suitcases and cabin bags do not, at least not comfortably for three hours up to Kandy. Booking by passenger count alone is the most common mistake.
Tell us the number of large cases along with the group size and we will suggest the class that leaves everyone room.
Rough capacities
| Vehicle | Travellers | Large suitcases |
|---|---|---|
| Car (sedan) | 1–3 | 2 |
| SUV | 1–4 | 3 |
| Van | 4–7 | 6 |
| Minibus / coach | 8+ | Group luggage |
Sports gear and oversize items
- Surfboards — van, and tell us the board length in advance
- Golf bags — van or SUV depending on the number of players
- Child seats — say so when you book so we can fit one
- Wheelchairs or mobility aids — van, with time allowed for loading
Distance changes the answer
Over twenty minutes to Negombo, a slightly full car is fine. Over five and a half hours to Ella, legroom and boot space decide how you feel when you arrive.
As a rule: anything above three hours, size up. The difference in comfort on a hill road is much larger than it looks in a booking form.
Longer itineraries
If the same vehicle is carrying you for a week, the calculus shifts again — you will be loading and unloading daily and living out of the boot. Groups of four who would squeeze into a car for an airport run almost always prefer a van for a full island tour.
Frequently asked questions
How many suitcases fit in a car from Colombo airport?
Two large cases plus cabin bags. For three or more, or for a surfboard, ask for a van when you request the quote.
Can you provide a child seat?
Yes — mention it when booking so the right vehicle and seat are arranged.
